Before there even was a Mt. Pleasant Library branch, there were like minded people who came together with the hope and vision to create one. Thus, the Friends of the Mt. Pleasant Library began, raising the money to build the original property on Cook Street and bring books, programs, and cultural events to the little town of Mt. Pleasant, NC. Their hard work and tenacity paid off—and the first library opened in August 1996.
The Friends is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by an elected board. Our group works to support library programming, sponsor author visits, and host literary events. Our annual play is a beloved community tradition, and we host annual used book sales and participate in community events.
We work to focus public attention on our library, stimulate the use of library resources, receive and encourage gifts and endowments to support the library, support the library in developing services and facilities for the community, and support the freedom to read. We help bring local programming and resources--from author visits to experiences and activities--and the money we raise goes directly back into our community.
